Who Are we?
We are doing prosthesis in
Johannesburg and Cape Town. Our rooms are at the Ballalaika and Winchester
Mansions.
The Institute for Artificial Eyes and Facial Prostheses
in Cologne was founded in 1923 by Willy Trester, the father
of Wolfgang Trester, who studied the ocularistic profession after the Great War in
the famous Eye
Company of Muller & Söhne in Wiesbaden. He extended his activities to North
and South America during the Twenties and was the first
ocularist to organise regular consultations in Rio,
Montevideo and Buenos Aires.
|
Cologne is still the headquarter of all activities
of the Institute, which is now run by Wolfgang
Trester. About
4000 patients are seen annually, as the Institute is responsible for taking care
of the anophthalmus patients in the Ruhr area and Mosel region bordering Luxemburg and Belgium. Close cooperation is
practiced with
the major University Eye Clinics of Cologne, Düsseldorf Bonn and Aachen.

In
addition to its activities within Germany Wolfgang Trester has worked in Europe
and Africa for more than 30 years. Longest
working relationships, however, exist with the Republic of South Africa. For
more than 30 years patients from all over Southern Africa have been provided
with German ocular prostheses through the service of W. Trester.
